Monday 22nd March 12.30pm
Jazz Lunch After his 'sell-out' events in GSMF 2006 and GSMF 2008 Jimmy Hastings and his Quartet will be returning to the Electric Theatre which will again be arranged 'café' style with tables and chairs. Come between 12.30pm and 2.00pm and enjoy the jazz quartet with your lunch and drinks from the Al Fresco refreshment bar or bring the lunch you would normally eat at your desk. The Jimmy Hastings Quartet has grown from an original duo between Jimmy Hastings and John Horler which started in the late 1970s. There have been personnel changes and additions during this time but the band has always managed to preserve its own character, that being a penchant for playing music both familiar and unfamiliar to jazz audiences, while always remaining conscious of the listener. The music is not always the kind you would expect to hear in a jazz club, but it is always jazz. Jimmy Hastings (tenor saxophone/flute) worked with the late great Humphrey Lyttelton and teaches jazz saxophone at Thames Valley University. John Horler (piano) Obtained an L.R.A.M. at the Royal Academy of Music and was awarded an A.R.A.M in 1992. He now works with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, and his long and distinguished career has included a great deal of studio work encompassing radio, records, film and television. Paul Morgan (double bass) was with The National Youth Jazz Orchestra from 1979 to 1982, The BBC Radio Orchestra from 1983 to 1985, and the Don Lusher Band from 1987. He has also played for films and television. Pete Cater (drums) made his first television appearance at the age of two. He was only 13 when he joined the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra and by the time he was 16 was working professionally both live and in studios. He now runs his own Big Band as well as playing for many other musicians and bands. This event is supported by A J Bennewith & Co |
